87% is a work rooted in the tradition of constructed photography and simultaneously a personal exploration of my relationship with nature, examined through trauma and memories. The title refers to a 2021 study by Sitra, which revealed that 87% of Finns consider nature to be a central part of their daily lives. The project is grounded in the landscapes of my childhood in Paimio, which form the emotional and visual foundation of the work.
The piece contains subtle references to Hugo Simberg's Symbolist painting The Wounded Angel. Through these references, I aim to evoke questions about vulnerability, healing, and the restorative power of nature.
87% was part of the 2m group exhibition held at Järvenpää Art House from January 10 to 22, 2023. The work initiates a dialogue about the significance of nature on both individual and societal levels and highlights how deeply nature can intertwine with personal experiences.
